4. Do not weld near the expansion joints or weld the steel flanges to the piping after the expansion joints are installed. This will either burn or

An expansion joint is designed to allow deflection in the axial (compressive), lateral (shear), or angular (bending) deflections.Expansion joints can be non-metallic or metallic (often called bellows type).

 

Rubber Expansion joints or Rubber bellows are primarily used to absorb noise and thermal movements along with the removal of vibration between equipment such as diesel engines, cooling water pumps, condensers, chillers and their mating pipe work.

 

The rubber expansion joints are molded with a single arch and useful for connections that may require axial compression, axial extension, lateral deflection, angular deflection. Both ends of the joint can be deflected. Body in EPDM or NBR, flanges in galvanized steel.

PTFE Bellows/Expansion Joint

To compensate for length changes in pipelines expansion bends, stuffing box compensators or expansion bellows are used. Bellows have proved particulaly suitable for lined pipe which may be subjected to shock and vibration. They also accomodate axial misalignment. Further advantages include simple space-saving design and speedy installation.

Typical Applications


Chemical Engineering-PTFE is employed in all cases where corrosive substances are used and where conventional materials create sealing problems. Glass apparatus is an example.
